What an awesome start we had last week! Your children are transitioning wonderfully. I am incredibly blessed to be your child's teacher! We have already begun to build many wonderful memories and to move into a routine.
Thank you for your cooperation at carpool as we learn the routine and make safety the number one priority! Our wonderful parapros, Michelle Ginocchio and Amy Maiwald, will be greeting the children at 8:00 am and the teachers will come up to the Main Entrance at 8:15. If you would like to meet us on the sidewalk after school, please be there by 12:00. We will start loading cars at 12:10.
This week we will finish the P.E.A.R.L. Rules. These 5 words - Politeness, Example, Attitude, Respect and Listen - will form the foundation of our class. We will be joining with the other classes to enjoy PEARL fruit salad on Thursday as well as making a PEARL keychain.
Our Book of the Week for this week is Amber on the Mountain by Tony Johnston. This delightful book is about a little girl in rural Appalachia who doesn't have a school. A girl comes to the mountain who can read and the girls inspire one another to learn many important things including reading. We'll be discussing friendship, family, roles, handling disappointment and perseverance. We'll also read Rumplestiltzkin this week to compare his response to disappointment to Amber's.
Your child will be bringing home our Book of the Week one night. Please read it with your child and return it to school the next day. On Thursday, your child will bring home their Book of the Week journal to draw a picture and tell you about something they remember from our book. Write down what they tell you. Send the journal back Monday morning...we read everyone's journal on Mondays!
This week's theme will be "friends". We'll continue to learn more about each other, the routines of school, and a little about the aspects of perseverance necessary for learning. We will continue to work on numbers, counting the number of days we're in school and learning about the number that corresponds. This week we'll focus on 5-8.
Here are some pictures of the fun we had this week!
