Sound of the Week – Y
Book of the Week – When I was Young in the Mountains
Habit of the Month – Obedience
Mom of the Month – Kate Wilson
We had a great week! We
met our 4th and 5th grade partner class. They read to us and we enjoyed apples
outside. I am so excited about the
kindergarteners forming relationships with these older kids. Our partners are excited about us too! They did a great job of engaging our kids and
asking them questions. One young man
even asked if he could take a minute to pray with his partner in the hall
before they left. We plan to meet with
them a couple of times a month. Your
child brought home a yellow sheet with information about their partner. As I said last week, hold on to that; it will
come in handy later!
We had other wonderful guest readers as well! Thank you to Elle’s grandparents and Ben’s
mom and Ellie’s mom for reading to us!
Thank you to our wonderful Mom of the Month, Jan Reynolds for
your help all month. She and Emily Truong
helped us make a delicious apple pie!
Your children are wonderful bakers!
Have them help you at home!
This week we will be celebrating the letter “y”! We will
be using yellow yarn to make letters of the alphabet, learning
about yesterday and the months of the year. At home you
could enjoy finding yellow things, measuring with a yardstick,
eating yogurt, trying a yoyo and practicing saying “Yes
Ma’am and Yes Sir”.
We
will enjoy our Book of the Week, When I was Young in the Mountains by
Cynthia Rylant. This is a very sweet book about two children raised by
their grandparents in rural, poor Appalachia. We will discuss God’s
perspective on children (Psalm 127), grandparents, getting older (Proverbs
16:31) and contentment (Matthew 6:23-33 and Philippians 4:4-6, 12). Give
your child the opportunity to ask their grandparents how life was different
when they were children! Cynthia Rylant
has written many wonderful children’s books. Some favorites are When
the Relatives Came and Silver Packages.
Individual
and class pictures will be taken on Wednesday. All students are to
wear their dressy enrichment day uniforms. You can order pictures in the
envelopes that were sent home last week.
On
Thursday and Friday I will be attending the Child Light Schools teacher’s
conference. Thank you to Kate Wilson,
Jan Reynolds, Todd Adkison and JR Wilson for leading our class service project
on Thursday.
